GENOMIKA FOUNDATION
One step further in scientific research

Genomika Foundation was founded by Recalcine Pharmaceutical Corporation, aiming to help poor children who require stem cells transplant to treat serious diseases, and also to support research on the uses of stem cells from umbilical cord, an area that is in the frontier of medical knowledge, in this way, give something back to Chile and the community.

In this context arises "Banco deVida" (life bank), a joint initiative between the Genomika Foundation and the Hospital of Universidad Católica, with the support of Innova Chile. Banco de Vida is the first public stem cell bank, which responds to the urgent need of having Chilean samples consistent with local patients, readily available for transplants, which avoids the costly import procedure.

Considering that both in Chile and Latin America there are a growing number of children suffering from serious diseases, such as Leukemia and other congenital diseases, and they lack the economic means to access this new kind of medicine that lies at the frontier of knowledge, Genomika Foundation aims to help these children so they can complete their treatment with stem cells.

Likewise, Genomika Foundation seeks to foster mothers in Chile and Latin America for the donation of umbilical cords of their children, so these new lives will help save other lives. The initiative demonstrates Recalcine's commitment and social responsibility by for helping children who suffer from painful diseases and lack the financial resources for treatment.

Along with the medical community in Chile and abroad, Genomika Foundation will promote stem cell research, mainly based on pediatric diseases; for which agreements will be signed with a variety of research centers.

For Recalcine Pharmaceutical Corporation's CEO, Alejandro Weinstein, the concept "New Science and Ethics" completely describes Genomika contribution to the community. "We are facing a new kind of science, in the frontier of knowledge, which widens the treatment possibilities to children with limited resources who need to improve their serious conditions"

The best way to participate in the Foundation is to promote among your family and friends the Foundation's aim, "from a new life, donate something that will give life", and thus, to publicize the need for newborns' umbilical cords donation.

Nowadays, the energy is focused on increasing awareness on the use of umbilical cord stem cells to treat serious diseases such as leukemia and others, and thus increase the donation of cord through the generation of alliances with other clinics and health centers, which will strengthen the presence of Banco de Vida.
